I read to a class of second graders a while back and one of them asked me how many trophies I had. He asked it, as if this was something he asked of everyone he met. “Where do you live?” “What’s your favorite food?” “How many trophies do you have?”

Strange how infrequently as an adult I’ve even thought of the concept of a trophy, let alone earning one. Interestingly enough they are actually quite cheap to purchase. If I buy in bulk I can give them out as all sorts of gifts. Leave them as tips in fancy restaurants. Place them in the passenger seats of unattended top-down convertibles. “Here’s a trophy for just being you. You earned it. Keep up the good work!”
